My plan was to walk at least 10,000 steps a day for the entre month of June. I was doing great!  I had even broken my personal record by walking over 20, 000 steps one day! :)  Unfortunately, everything came to a screeching halt last Friday—my striiv broke.  It was under the one year warranty, so they are sending me a new one but it won’t be here for a week or so.  I guess I will just have to try this challenge again in July 🙂

I do enjoy walking outside, but haven’t been able to enjoy it very much this summer.  We have a nice trail behind our house that circles around the little league fields.


Unfortunately, my allergies have been TERRIBLE this year.  I’ve been hiding inside my house for whole days to avoid the sniffles, sneezing, itchy noise and throat that appear whenever I spend time outside.  I’ve been trying to be proactive about it and have read some articles about how to deal with it.  I shower as soon as I come inside from any outdoor activity, I wash the sheets and pillows, and have even been vacuuming more often. I read that purchasing a hepa filter or air purifier can help a lot, but I’d love to hear from someone who has used them.  Anybody out there ever tried one? Or does anyone else have terrible allergies and know some good tricks?

In other news, Beta’s leg is still bothering her a bunch.  We go back to the vet tomorrow—hopefully they are able to give her some relief!

This past Christmas, Anson bought me a Striiv.  It’s a great pedometer—keeps track of my walking steps, running steps, and stair steps.  It will show me a graphs of my performance AND it has a game on it. It also pays attention to my performance and offers me “challenges” based on my previous activities. It’s made me much more aware of my activity level on a daily basis.  I love it!

Techni ally, you’re supposed to take 10,000 steps per day.  That’s supposed to be the goal. Well, it’s much easier said than done.  If I’m not paying attention, I MIGHT reach that number on a particularly active day.  Normally, I average 5000-6000 with my normal routine.  I’ve managed to reach 10,000 for 7 days in a row, but that’s my best (and required a lot of effort).

So, in an attempt to be healthier I’m giving myself a challenge for June—walk 10,000 steps every day this month.  And I’m putting it on the internet so that I’ll be held accountable :)  I invite any of my friends with pedometers to do it with me (we can commiserate together!).  Or, if you don’t have a pedometer, you could create a different challenge!
